Armourer
Once again I've been convinced to get involved with fencing in the form of being on the Provincial Council. Last month at the AGM I was elected to the position of Armourer, which sounds cool, but if any of you can remember anything about me and fencing, then you'll probably know that this is possibly the most inappropriate position on the Council I could be in. Ah well, I guess that's what delegation's for.
The reasons behind my reelection (I was previously Secretary for four years until 2000 or so) is that the current President, (Steve Clarke snr, for those who care) wants to reform the Council well and good - making it more like a board of directors than the administrative council it is today, and cutting out some of the dead wood in the process - and needs a fully supportive group behind him, given we would be basically voting ourselves out of existence. He and the current Council crop are also working towards setting up a permanent fencing venue, (that's right, permanent!), which has almost certainly been the dream of every fencer since the dawn of fencing in Christchurch, and which by sometime through this year will be a dream that will be realised. Both these reasons are, I believe, fantastic, and well overdue in the local fencing community. The venue would be situated in an old, but completely revamped, warehouse next to the WestpacTrust Centre (is this now only the Westpac Centre, given that they've lost the trust, so to speak?) and it should be big enough for many pistes, lockers, changing rooms... everything that could be needed. The plan is to allow clubs to use it, and host all tournaments in Canterbury there. Swee!
Not that many of you out there will care, but hey, knowing is good, right?
In show news, The Tempest draws ever nearer (three and a half weeks to go), and the preparations ever more frantic. I have no doubt that this will be a good show to come and see, with heaps of input from a lot of people we know (Si and Mel on stage, Bishy making props, Dave basically being my bitch, Calum once again being a legend behind the scenes, and of course, Mr Koorey calling all the artistic shots in his Dramasoc sawnsong). Opening night will be Wednesday May 11, and we'd love to see everyone come along!
Oh, and I've got stuff on my do page (given I actually "do" stuff from time to time). Feel free to point and laugh.
Oh, and I have comments.
