Happy Birthday Juliet

Well.

An eventful two months has passed since last I blogged. That's some time. And it was some time jam packed with events that deserved, nay that cried out, to be written down for all to read. But they weren't, and I'm not even going to claim slackness - just a general unwillingness to do anything that I wasn't absolutely required to for quite some time.

So why am I blogging now? Why, I'm procrastinating (I even got a new game to play, just like old times) as I have a test to study for. Obviously.

While I'm largely avoiding doing any work on the subject, and even though it means I'm working 9 hour days during term time now, Spanish is fantastic. All those years I've told myself I'll do it? Well here I am finally learning the language - and loving it! Except the rolling of the Rs. This is something I will have to practice over an over to get, though I think I find it especially difficult as having braces all those years ago seems to have stuffed up my general teeth layout and means I can't easily place my tongue against the roof of my mouth, which I reckon is an important first step to getting that roll going. Still, it'll come, and even without the ability I can join James T in rousing renditions of Cancion Del Mariachi. It's a lot easier to learn songs when you know what they mean...

For those of you who failed to see Simon dressed in full leather and Ben dance the Tango with another man, you missed out on a great show - one of the best MuSoc shows in most people's memories! (This isn't a high bar to beat, I'll be the first to admit, but it was nice to see the reaction of those people leaving the theatre who knew what to expect from a MuSoc show - a head shaking in disbelief, and whispered comments in the vein of "But they could all sing!" and "We could hear them!".) It was a pleasure to be involved (after the fact :) and I'll do it again, dammit. In fact, I'm currently doing it - The Tempest approaches and you're all strongly encouraged to come down and sample the theatrical delights plucked from the heights of Mr Scott Koorey's amazing imagination. It promises to be quite a show.

And Mel's in it!

In other news, I was looking through a pile o' old stuff that I got back from Sarah B the other day, and I found some classics (anyone remember Ben's "Tyco Acquire Known Universe" press release? Laugh, I know I did. Again.) which included such in-joke gems as...

TBALC Movie Group Dynamics

  • Dan - Ideas Man/Plucky Sidekick
  • Tim - Actio Hero/Tough Guy/Macho Thickie
  • Pete - Guy That Loses The Plot When trouble Starts/Bimbo
  • Warwick - Guy With A Criminal past Who Redeems Himself Through Heroic Sacrifice
  • Sara - Love Interest/Screaming Arm Clutcher
  • Nic - Injured Guy That Says "Go On Without Me", Later Saves Everyone
  • James C - Nerdy Scientist/Monster/Alien/Terrorist Expert
  • Ben - Expendable Extra/First To Get Eaten
  • Teena - Sarcastic Woman That Says Things Like "Oh GREAT Plan"
  • Simon - Comic Relief
  • James M - Arch Villain/Insane Criminal Mastermind/Alien Menace

I think we can safely point the finger at Ben here, as it was his hand writing, and I think I was playing a computer game at the time. No doubt. There are many lists on a couple of pieces of paper (TBALC meets STAR WARS sees Warwick cast as Wedge - "I'm hit, I have to pull out (of my course)". Bah!), and I believe this is the first writing down of one of the definitive TBALC taglines "Doing today what we should've done yesterday". How true.

And in the latest update of "Belive It or Not", I've gone and broken the long tradition of having a crap radio/no radio in whatever car I happen to be driving at the time. That's right, I went out a bought a new stereo (CD player. Ooo.) from the man. It's shiny.

That is all.
